South River Fly Fishing Expo
April 22-23, 2017
Waynesboro is a destination for anglers around the world. This centrally located, urban fishery offers year-round quality trout fishing. The annual South River Fly Fishing Expo is held right on the banks of the river—the perfect location to host a two-day celebration of fly fishing. All net proceeds from the community event go toward fisheries improvements on the South River and Downtown Waynesboro revitalization.
The Expo offers anglers of all levels an opportunity to meet and learn from professional fly fishers, guides, and fly tyers. A full line-up of speakers and on-the-river demonstrations will bring a wealth of knowledge and techniques to life.
It’ll be a full weekend! Learn about fly fishing in Shenandoah National Park and along the Virginia coast and Chesapeake Bay. Pick up tips on new fly patterns and techniques. Watch presentations on fly casting and kayak fly fishing. Looking to become a better tier? Register now for Pat Cohen’s Deer Hair Fly Tying Class taking place on Saturday. Your ticket gets you 4 hours of instruction and admission to the Expo for the rest of the day. Class size is limited to 10 students so get that ticket today.
Top vendors will be on hand with their latest gear, and exhibitors include Waynesboro’s South River Fly Shop, so you can pick up some new gear to go with your new techniques and step right out onto the South River to practice! Admission is free for children 15 and under, so bring the whole family and enjoy a weekend together on the South River.
April 29, 2017
Spring is here! And there’s no better way to celebrate than bringing the whole family out to Waynesboro Riverfest. This free annual event is a highlight for children of all ages.
Immerse yourself in a full day of programs and activities on the banks and water of the South River. The Fish n’ Fun Rodeo, Stream Safari and Reptile World are back by popular demand. As are the education animals from the Wildlife Center of Virginia! The VA Department of Game & Inland Fisheries will also be on hand to lead young anglers in stream electro-fishing. Canoe rides, a corn hole tournament, and kids arts & crafts round out the fun-filled day. The grand finale of Riverfest is, of course, The Great South River Duck Race! Duck certificates can be purchased beforehand or at the festival. And your support helps Riverfest continue to promote environmental conservation and watershed stewardship as well as provide youth scholarships.
